Breast Implants: Low Rate of Annual Check-Ups Results in Delayed Presentation of Ruptured Implants
Recent Publication
Breast implants are a common reconstruction method, but long-term complications such as implant ruptures can occur. An analysis of 1128 breast operations at St. Pölten University Hospital showed that only 15.46% of patients had their implants checked regularly once a year. 73.8% of implant ruptures were detected in patients after an average of 17 years when they visited the doctor due to pain or capsular contracture. However, routine examinations detected 26.2% of the cracks earlier, before symptoms appeared.
