Assisted Suicide in Austria : Nurses' Understanding of Patients' Requests and the Role of Patient Symptoms
Recent Publication
In a recent study, researchers, including OÄ PD Dr. Gudrun Kreye MBA from Krems University Hospital, examined how nurses in Austria deal with requests for assisted suicide. Since legalization in 2022, many nurses have been faced with the challenge of understanding such requests and responding to them professionally. Research shows that not only physical discomfort, but above all the loss of autonomy and quality of life play a central role for affected patients. At the same time, many caregivers feel insecure due to a lack of clear guidelines.
