Algorithms of Patient Selection for Allergen Immunotherapy

A recent article deals with the question of which patients are particularly suitable for allergen immunotherapy. It is shown that the decision in favour of immunotherapy should not depend solely on the allergy test, but on an overall picture of symptoms, actual triggers, severity, risks and the patient's expectations. The benefits of clear decision-making processes are particularly emphasised, so that immunotherapies can be used in a more targeted manner and unnecessary or unpromising treatments can be avoided.
