The AI-Aging-Enterprise: A Political Economy of Aging and Artificial Intelligence

Recent Publication

In the current debate on artificial intelligence in the field of ageing, people often only talk about how technologies can support individual older people. However, researchers, including first author Ass.-Prof. Dr Vera Gallistl-Kassing BA MA, show that there is much more at stake: namely political, economic and social structures that determine who benefits from AI and who does not. The team is developing a new approach - a "political economy of aging and AI" - that makes the relationships between older people, power structures and technological developments more visible. This perspective makes it clear that AI solutions, ethical guidelines and political decisions cannot be viewed in isolation. Instead, the material conditions of ageing and the role of large technology companies must be given greater consideration. The publication of this article was made possible by targeted open access funding from KL, which supports free access to scientific knowledge and strengthens the international visibility of research.
