The ageing community - How ageing can be supported at community level

More and more municipalities are facing the challenge of ageing. In their book chapter, Katrin Lehner BA MA and Ass. Prof. Dr Vera Gallistl-Kassing BA MA from the Division of Gerontology and Health Research show how communities can actively shape this change. Based on interviews with very old people and workshops, they emphasise that ageing can succeed if social participation is encouraged and barriers are removed. Examples such as ‘gossip benches’, transport services or communal meeting places show how easily encounters and togetherness can be strengthened.
