Advances in Parkinson’s Disease: What to Do When Oral Therapy Reaches Its Limits?.

Recent publication

OÄ Dr. Stephanie Hirschbichler MSc PhD and OA PD Dr. Thomas Foki have jointly presented a new treatment option for Parkinson's patients who suffer from severely fluctuating movement abilities. Innovative, device-based therapies are now available for this patient group, for whom traditional oral therapies are no longer sufficiently effective. These new therapy methods significantly improve quality of life by providing constant symptom relief. To find out which patients could benefit from these treatments, the experts recommend the ‘5-2-1’ rule of thumb as a quick screening tool. This allows doctors to make a targeted decision as to whether a device-based therapy is appropriate and optimally address individual needs.
