/ Certificate Course:  APPLIED ETHICS AND ETHIC CONSULTANCY FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS

The course

Beyond professional good medicine and nursing, there is an increasing need for inter-professional communication, collaboration and jointly designed decision-making processes. The aim of the course is to provide competence-oriented training and continuing education in all health care professions for the establishment of ethics work and ethics consultation in correspondingly effective structures at team and department level, at the level of individual institutions and at the level of the sponsoring organization of the Austrian health care system.

The course teaches the basics, instruments and skills for clinical ethics consultation as well as for the establishment and implementation of ethics boards/ethics committees and the establishment of an ethics consultation service at the level of individual facilities. This will help keep teams in health care facilities capable of making decisions and acting in ethical conflicts.

The benefits

Trained ethics consultants are facilitators of applied ethics consultation in healthcare facilities. They are able to establish, support and implement a structure for the highly professional handling of ethics issues in everyday work. Furthermore, they can be responsible or coordinating members of ethics boards/ethics committees. They are themselves available for the moderation of ethical individual case consultation across departments and ensure continuous training and further education on ethics topics.
