Equal Opportunities Service

The Committee for Equal Opportunities and Advancement of Women has established an Equal Opportunities Service. The Equal Opportunities Service is an advice service for all staff and students at KL University who have experienced discrimination. The members of the Equal Opportunities Service team can be contacted with regard to discrimination issues. They provide advice and support if problems arise, acting with discretion and maintaining strict confidentiality.

DUTIES OF THE SERVICE

The Equal Opportunities Service is responsible for combating discrimination on the basis of:

›› gender
›› ethnicity
›› religion or world view
›› age
›› sexual orientation, and
›› disability

It is also charged with advising staff and students at KL with regard to such matters, supporting those affected and preventing such incidents from occurring in the future.

MEMBERS

The members of the Equal Opportunities Service act independently and free from direction. They will protect the anonymity of anyone affected by discrimination and keep private details in confidence. All concerns brought to them will be treated confidentially.

ADVICE PROCESS

Anyone affected by discrimination can contact the members of the Equal Opportunities Service by e-mail. Then, in a confidential meeting, the incident in question can be discussed, as well as individual aims and the options that are open. If it becomes clear that an intervention in the situation is not necessary, or desired, the incident will be documented, making sure that the person affected remains anonymous. If an intervention is necessary or desired, as an example further talks with the other party involved may take place. If in the initial discussion it becomes clear that the Equal Opportunities Service is not responsible, the service will attempt to direct the case to another, suitable service.
