S – Social responsibility
Campus culture & diversity
We firmly believe that different perspectives promote innovation and that respectful cooperation forms the basis for scientific progress. That is why diversity is enshrined in our statutes and shapes our daily work – from human resources policy to teaching.
Since 2025, we have held the equalitA seal of approval from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Economy – an award for fair career paths and active promotion of women. In addition, we have been recognised as a family-friendly company in Lower Austria. With women making up 66% of our workforce and 58% of management positions (in the organisation), we are sending a clear signal for equality. All employees complete mandatory training on unconscious bias in order to recognise unconscious thought patterns and consciously embrace diversity. In addition, the Commission for Equality and the Advancement of Women, a disability officer and a contact point for equal treatment issues ensure an inclusive environment.
equalitA seal of approval
The equalitA seal of approval recognises companies that actively promote equality. It assesses fair career opportunities, transparent pay, family-friendly measures and female leadership. Companies with equalitA demonstrate that they strengthen diversity and are committed to an equal working culture in the long term.
Unconscious Bias
Unconscious bias refers to unconscious thought patterns that influence our judgment without us realizing it. These “blind spots” can lead to unequal opportunities in everyday working life. Awareness, training, and clear decision-making structures can reduce these distortions and support fair processes.
Workplace reintegration management (BEM)
BEM helps employees successfully return to work after a long period of illness. Appropriate measures are developed together, such as adjusted working hours or supportive discussions. The aim is to improve health, prevent further absences, and ensure a sustainable return to the workplace.

Health & Well-being
As a health university, we bear special responsibility for the well-being of our employees and students. We create conditions that enable a healthy work-life balance: over 150 part-time models, flexible flexitime and a paid lunch break are just a few examples.
Our occupational health management ranges from ergonomic workplaces and regular back fitness courses to discounted sports programmes. Since 2024, an occupational integration management programme has been supporting employees returning to work after long periods of sick leave.
Education & Engagement
In addition to our commitment to excellence in teaching, we are involved in numerous initiatives that bring science to life:
Formats such as the Long Night of Research, the Maimonides Lectures and the Fit4Reanimation project bring research to the public and make a direct contribution to healthcare. In the past financial year, our employees also invested 3,412 hours in external training courses – from specialist conferences to international Erasmus+ programmes. In this way, we aim not only to promote personal development, but also to transfer knowledge to society.
